Faithful to the original sound
While many microphone designs incorporate their own unique sound processing features, many applications demand true-to-life sound reproduction without adding or subtracting any information. This is where the Norinmann 180 series microphones come in.
The Norinmann 180 series includes products with three different pickup patterns: KM 183 (omnidirectional), KM 184 (cardioid), and KM 185 (supercardioid), meeting the needs of most stage and studio applications. Because the 180 series microphones are non-modular, they are more cost-effective than the modular KM A and KM D series (which offer a variety of interchangeable microphone heads for analog and digital output stages).
Cardioid Polar Pattern
The KM 184 inherits Proton Man's advanced technology while offering an attractive price. Its cardioid polar pattern remains unchanged with frequency response, effectively suppressing back crosstalk (180°) even at low frequencies. In practical use, there is no coloration across a wide pickup angle, crucial for multi-microphone setups and accurate stereo/surround imaging. The KM 184's frequency response is very flat and linear, with a slight boost in the high frequencies around 9 kHz, adding brightness to the sound. Its innovative preamplifier, carefully designed with a wide dynamic range, maintains the full sound of the microphone head. The KM 184 has an extremely low noise floor of only 13 dB-A and can handle high SPL levels up to 138 dB without distortion. Thanks to its low-impedance output stage, the transformerless output stage can drive cables up to 300 meters (1000 feet) without transmission loss.
Applications
The KM 184 is an extremely versatile microphone. Its transparent sound is suitable for a wide range of applications, including piano, percussion, drums, acoustic guitar, upright bass, violin, cello, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, and other acoustic instruments. The KM 184 can be used for solo and ensemble performances. The KM 184 has excellent off-axis performance, making it ideal for stereo and surround sound recording. Although the KM 184 is not specifically optimized for vocals, it is frequently used for classical vocals and performances where sonic realism is paramount. Due to its small size, the KM 184 is visually unobtrusive, making it ideal for television and broadcast applications.
